Addiction Therapy
Addiction is a complex but treatable disease that affects both brain function and behaviors. Through therapy clients can recognize, avoid, and cope with the situations in which they are most likely to use drugs, such as feeling entitled to have things one’s own way or not understanding the consequences of one’s behavior.Addiction therapy is not just for the addict, the effect of addiction is felt by everyone in the addict’s life including family, friends, spouse. We know addicts and alcoholics really mean it when they say they are done, yet so many find themselves once again trapped in the vicious cycle of addiction. Therapy can help all those effected by the vicious cycle of addiction.
Addiction can come in many forms. An addictive behavior is a behavior, or a stimulus related to a behavior (e.g., sex, gambling, internet, food), that is both rewarding and reinforcing, and is associated with the development of an addiction. Addictions involving addictive behaviors are normally referred to as behavioral addictions.
