Group Therapy
Group therapy helps individuals develop communication skills and socialization skills, and allows clients to learn how to express their issues and accept criticism from others. Group therapy allows individuals to develop self-awareness by listening to others with similar issues. Group topics are ever changing based on the interest of individuals and when a number of people who are interested in a certain topic or issue create the need for a group. Groups have a maximum of 10 members.
The group each week starts with an introduction to the weekly theme, which is carried through all aspects of the program on a weekly basis. This group incorporates aspects of Cognitive Behavioral and Psycho-education therapies. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of treatment that focuses on examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
By exploring patterns of thinking that lead to self-destructive actions and the beliefs that direct these thoughts, people with mental health concerns and/or addictions can modify their patterns of thinking to improve coping skills. These are support and educational groups.
Examples of Groups offered include:
- Teens who have lost a parent to death
- Divorced individuals trying to start over
- Parenting techniques
- Surviving childhood trauma
- Grief and loss
- Extended Family
- Living with chronic pain
- Living with depression
